Women: Do you really believe that there is huge discrimination against you?

Last time I’ve checked, I haven’t seen much of discrimination from the federal government when it comes for the employment and their pay scales. The federal health agency spends more money on women’s health than on men’s. According to the federal statistics there are 39 states that have an office of women’s health and only six have one for men. A search of more than 3,000 medical journals listed in Index Medicus found that 23 articles were written on women’s health for each one written on men’s. Although a woman is only 14 percent more likely to die from breast cancer than a man is from prostate cancer, funding for breast cancer research is 660 percent greater than funding for prostate cancer research. Even the post office has gotten into the act: there is only one disease for which you can buy a postage stamp and the profits will go to research to cure the disease: breast cancer, even though heart disease kills millions more men prematurely.

Women: Do you really believe that there is huge discrimination against you?
Obviously we have come an awfully long way from the days when women weren't allowed to vote etc. but I dont believe it is an equal situation as yet. I think the issue nowadays is not so cut and dry as somebody consciously discriminating against another based on gender.

Unfortunately there are still men in powerful jobs who will not hire a woman for a position because they dont think a woman would be able to handle the job or they are afraid that they are just going to get pregnant and bugger off when they're needed but they are fortunately a minority.

Middle management roles are often made up mostly of women but the dynamic shifts the higher up you get. Part of this is because it is not in most womens nature to go for a powerful job that requires cut throat decisions and ridiculous hours. Because of this not many women apply for jobs at an executive level and as there are less roles available at this level they end up competing against one another instead of helping each other succeed.

Another hindrance to women is that alot of networking is still done on the golf course and not as many women play golf (sounds silly but I have heard first hand accounts of female executives missing out on crucial information or opportunities because they werent at a golf game they never even got invited to)

With regards to lower pay the reason women get lower pay for the same job is because they generally accept the offered rate and men will quite often have more confidence to barter for a higher wage than what was on offer. This is mostly a confidence thing and there are definitely confident women out there but I read an interesting article once which suggested that when most men look at a job description for a new role they will confidently go for the job if they have about 80% of the required skills whereas a woman with 80% of the required skills would focus on the 20% she doesnt possess and probably not go for it.

Anyway, it is an interesting question I have obviously focused on just the employment aspect because thats the only one I feel I have much knowledge on but with regards to the funding for breast cancer etc I think that is all about marketing. The organisations looking for money for breast cancer research are damn good at marketing, everybody knows about the pink ribbons etc. It doesnt make it any more important than any other disease, unfortunately its just all about business.

Maybe we should all contact the organisations who arrange funding for research etc for mens diseases and tell them to pick up their act.
Reply:what feminists dont understand is that they are not the only ones being discriminated. so are men and every other race. feminists feel they are the most discriminated and play victims instead of doing something. and when they accomplish something then they show it off about how much better women are then men.
Reply:Yes, yes, yes. You never mentioned the attitude, it is that that counts. Everyone knows how difficult it is to break through the glass ceiling, a woman has to work twice as hard as a guy to get there.
Reply:I feel that I am doing fine and being treated fine. I am 36, a single mother and currently unemployed (on disability temporarily). But my life is fine.

I think many of our illnesses and diseases can be stopped if we take care of our bodies, our minds, and our environment. I smoked for 17 years. If I end up with lung cancer, I can't get angry with anyone but myself. I wouldn't sue the tobacoo company for making the cigarettes and making them addictive. I choose to start smoking and I choose not to stop for 17 years. I think health care is expensive ($62 for a simple 15 minute doctor visit) but I have to deal with the consequences to my actions. If I end up dying from lung cancer and have a $35,000 medical bill, I can pay $100 a month until I die and have the hospital bite me. lol
Reply:You dont need to be a woman to know that there is discrimination agiants women, just by taking a look at basic stats like CEOs in this country and High ranking positions in any big comnpany you can see that women are not being judged the same way men are. This is also a racial issue because if you a white female you make less than a white male, but if you a colored female you make less than the white female. Women are being discriminated all over the world, and even in this so called advanced society there are still many issues to be delt with. Men should be allies to the strugles of women, even tho some issues we can only imagine and not relate to we should support our women so that they can be equal in the eyes of big business and society in general.
Reply:I dont feel discriminated against.
Reply:I have never felt any discrimintaion for being a woman. perfect example.

I have just enlisted in the US Army. And during the process of enlisting, the potential enlistee's are co-ed. Now, only the males get to do this program called fast trak. they get to move to the front of the lines, go through all their processing first. Now, at first, i was P*ssed!! so, after about 4 mintes of b itching, i went and asked "why aren't woman allowed to participate?"

the asnwer...

"There aren't as many females who go through MEPS, so you go through quick either way. They put the woman ahead of the men because there are so few of you, its better to get you all done in one group, than to have to process you all one by one."

Made me happy. and there was no discrimiation at all.

I think the reason why alot of women feel this way is that they want everything. They don't understand that its not all about them..but when the tables are turned...whats the first card they use?

I cant do that, I'm a woman!!

go figure...
Reply:Well first of all, they more money on women's health because being the sole providers of all man, including you, our internal works need tuning up more often. And you usually better quality from something with more components that it's counter part, for example, a black and white tv and a color tv. We are far more complex than your basement troll mentality could grasp. And because women have a major roll in maintaining the family, the loss of the female head is worse than that of the loss of the male head. Most men could not take on the responsibility of the woman's job as well as his own, seeing as how he was usually more pampered than anyone else at home. He'd be lost. For a woman, the man is never home anyway, so if he never comes back, it really doesn't change very much. Sorry but listening to you argue with that other member has given me an edge of contempt for you. And I don't like men very much on a good day.

Plus this is mostly the men's fault that they are not recognized as victims of these types of cancers because men just plain flat out do NOT want to be seen as a victim, either in the publics eye, or his own. A man is absolutely invincible until that one heart attack knocks him back down to earth, and if it doesn't kill him he might learn something from it. Women are fine with expressing concerns like this because we don't take them as a personal rebuff, we KNOW it's not our fault and therefore have no need to feel less "manly" And no man is going to stand up in front of everyone and announce,"hey everyone, there's a cantalope in my drawers! Anyone wanna check it out? And because prostate cancer is right in there with your "family jewels" the mere thought of anything invading your pride and joy (LOL) is horrifying and unthinkable! You almost feel indignant, how DARE this disease touch my precious balls!!"

No I don't see that happening.

And yes, some idiot man decided that women should be worth less at work than the men, and even less and less with every child she has at home. They think we consider the family more important than the job, but hello, without the job there is no rent, without rent, there is no house, without a house there are no children and without children there is no family. It is not a difficult deduction, but one failed to be seen by the male population.

And could a women run business overcome a man run one?

I think this is entirely possible in the future. Men have power over women in only 2 ways now, and that is literally strength in numbers. In all other ways, women are more intelligent, practicle, have no need to compete in pissing contests, and if it weren't for PMS, I think women would have bound together and taken you out to pasture as a sperm doner.

And if men die of heart disease more it is because they have a filthy diet of the manly "meat and taters" diet, and on top of the beer and the sloth it usually takes them out, seeing as how they were asleep at the switch anyway.

There will come a time of reckoning in this manner. The peasants will revolt. You men can only **** on us for so long before something gives. We only need to convince the east indians and the asian women that men are NOT gods, and that they can make their own damn dinner and jerk THEMSELVES off cause she's got better things to do.
Reply:I just want to respond to one part of this. When you mention the "glass ceiling", you listed several jobs that have nothing to

do with the "glass ceiling" effect. The "Glass Ceiling" refers to women being able to enter lower level positions (in white collar jobs) but never being able to move up past a certain point. It does NOT refer to women not being able to obtain positions in the jobs (mostly blue collar) you listed.

And heart disease also kills more women than breast cancer...

As for my "really" believing that there is huge discrimination...I might have hesitated about it before, but since visiting the Women's Studies section, and seeing ALL of the "questions" that are posted daily on here about women being "inferior," "equality" being a fallacy, and the "fact" that women entering the work force is what "ruined America," I am now convinced that discrimination is alive and well. It may be that none of the guys that spew this crap on here are in positions of "power" (and I would assume not) but I now think that it's very likely that some men in power DO believe what a lot of these guys believe.

And I have seen it. I've not experienced it directly (much) but my husband used to work for a very male dominated company (in upper management) and he freely admits that women who became pregnant while employed were ALWAYS "let go", once it became known. Of course, the real reason was never the GIVEN reason, but as my husband said, "You can always find a 'reason' to fire anyone." He also says that women, on average, are paid less than men in this company, REGARDLESS of experience. He said, simply, that it was "understood" that women would accept less. And I have a friend who works in a male dominated industry (female) and she says that her boss is openly chauvinist, constantly states that "women don't belong her" (so why did he hire her and the two or three other women? Affirmative action, I guess) and she has been passed up for promotion time and again, despite her ALWAYS being in the top percentile for performance. These are just anecdotal, but I find it hard to believe that my friend is the only one who is experiencing this kind of discrimination, or that my husband's company is the only one that routinely practices it.
