Is it serious if your white blood count goes up to22.01 while you are doing chemo?

my husband has prostate cancer. and is doing chemo, texatere. and the nurse said his count went up and that the dr. would call him the next day. but didnt know we have to wait till tuesday. kinda worried. thanks

Is it serious if your white blood count goes up to22.01 while you are doing chemo?
No, at most it is acute infection. At Least he has a white blood cell count. Low counts are the ones that are dangerous.
Reply:I would be concerned that he could have an infection if his WBCs are high like that.

Depression?

my boyfriend was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer in his real early 30's. I am 25. Last week he broke up with me stating i deserved better %26amp; move on. I dont know how one can just up and move on when you have given your heart to them. He has shut down, wont talk or see me and has completely deleted me from his myspace page. I dont know what to do or how to help. Why is he closing me out?

Depression?
He is trying to do what he thinks is best for you. If you love him then keep calling him go and see him tell him that you will fight the cancer together. If you think he is the one you want to be with forever then propose to him. You have to get him to understand that he is not alone. He is going to need you no matter how many times he says he doesnt, cancer is a scary thing to have no one should ever face it alone.

Adolescent male - WAY low testosterone (Risperdal?)?

So this may only be a question that someone familiar with this drug can help me. My 17 year old son has taken Risperdal for about 5 years (he has tourette syndrome). He also takes 2 other meds. There was a mix-up with one of his meds and he mistakenly got a prostate cancer (anti-antogen?) about a year ago (please no lectures, I questioned the pharmacist and was told I didn't know what I was talking about!). It was physically very clear that he wasn't producing any testosterone after he had taken it for 29 days (before we figured it out). We did hormone tests at that time, and sure enough his testosteron was at 220 - way low for an otherwise healthy teenage boy. He's been so lathargic for the last year that we just had another hormone test done...now his testosterone is at 92. Doctors are telling me that it's because of the Risperdal he takes. His Prolactin levels are a little high (which IS characteristic of the Risperdal), but nothing dramatic like the testosterone. Any ideas?

Adolescent male - WAY low testosterone (Risperdal?)?
Yeah, ask the doctor whether there are alternative drugs he could use that do not have this impact on his development or change Doctors.
Reply:Well if you say that the Doctors are telling you that his testosterone levels are a little low because of the Risperdal isn't that your answer? And if they are telling you this, do you want the problem fixed because if you do you could ask for an alternative medicine. If you don't want it fixed, well keep on giving him the Risperdal. Prolactin is a hormone most commonly found in women. Called Protein Lactin it stimulates breast growth at puberty and produces milk for pregnat women. High levels in males leds to the growing of breasts.

Is milk bad for you?

I've heard from several sites that milk is filled with blood, pus, bacteria, pesticides and all these other harmful things. Some say that even causes breast and prostate cancer. There's countless things I've heard about milk, but is it true?

And isn't our milk pasteurized? So wouldn't the bacteria and other contaminations be gone? Yeah, I'm really confused. I mostly got all this info from milksucks.com

Is milk bad for you?
Milk in this country is highly regulated and inspected. It is safe and clean.

Milk approved for human consumption is very clean and safe from pathogens. Even before pasteurization milk must meet very strict criteria.

No antibiotics are allowed in any milk for human consumption

It is tested numerous times. Not only is this for the safety of people who might be sensitive, but since most milk is destined for cheese, any antibiotic residue would make the milk unuseable as the cheese won't set.

Many states allow the sales of raw (unpasteurized) milk and in some cases the approved raw milk must be even cleaner than pasteurized milk (California, for instance)

http://www.realmilk.com

No blood or pus ( which is white blood cells, indicative of infection) is allowed in milk.

Milk is very good for you and especially if it is from good clean sources.

Those that disapprove of milk are vegans and animal rights wackos.

Of course, I wouldn't force anyone to drink it if they don't want, but if you like milk, feel safe that the milk supply is safe and clean. And delicious!
Reply:Yes it is.
Reply:if is pasteurized then its good
Reply:That stuff may be true, but it wont kill u. It gives u calcium for stronger bones
Reply:got milk?
Reply:milk is good humans been living on it for centuries ... plus babies drink it look at them ... its all what the human need ... not EVERYTHING ...
Reply:obviously a website called milksucks.com isn't going to list the positive things about milk
Reply:Milk is good for you, but full of salt, so you should drink 2%-regarding all that hype on milksucks.com, if you listen to all that crap you'll never eat or drink anything. Our milk is pasteurized, don't worry!
Reply:It's only considered "bad" or "harmful" to you, if you are in your 50's or 60's years of age. Even then, it isn't going to kill you. When you are a child and teenager, it is very good for you because it keeps your bones strong, growing, and healthy. And yes, Milk is pasteurized, and the milk in stores doesn't contain bacteria or any other containment's. If it is not properly cleaned and processed then it might contain those substances, but the milk that is sold in stores is already treated. Milk makes you strong, so drink it!
Reply:Milk gives you strong bones and calcium. Its alright if it is pasteurized. Websites aren't always right! Ask Doctors and Dietitians about this. They know the real answer!
Reply:Got pus?
Reply:NO milk is NOT bad for you. Milk is good and yes it is pasteurized.
Reply:Milk is wonderful. If you're a calf, I mean.

Regarding strong bones, even the Dairy Council funded research that proved that dairy leaches calcium from bones.

Research calcium, dairy, and phosphorus.
Reply:Above all, milk is unnecessary for human beings to drink. Yes, humans might have been drinking it for centuries, but that doesn't excuse it. No other animal on the face of this Earth needs to consume breastmilk past infancy - why should human beings? ESPECIALLY breast milk from another creature.

It's not something humans were built to drink. There has been a lot of research showing that increasing dairy consumption is in fact not a good way to prevent osteoporosis. In fact, countries with the highest consumption of dairy tend to have the highest rate of hip fractures.

The reason why people are so convinced dairy is so good for them is because of the dairy industry's close relations with the USDA, which writes our Nutritional Guidelines. The dairy lobby's most powerful ads, "Got Milk?" ads, are ridiculous in their very nature. It started with 3 glasses a day but now they are saying 4 glasses of milk a day (24 in 24 is their new slogan). They just want to shove their products down your throat. For more about the dairy industry I would reccomend reading "Food Politics" by Dr. Marion Nestle, a nutritionist that has collaborated previously with the USDA and who has been a board member on various Nutritional Guidelines committees. She reveals in this VERY well-sourced book all of the pressure that the dairy lobbyists put on USDA nutritionists as well as the government in general. She is NOT a vegan, I might add, she is simply breaking the code fo silence and speaking up about our government's fallacies when it comes to pushing political agenda into our food.

Milk is good. But milk is good for calves (baby cows).
Reply:Since you put this in the vegan/vegeterian category you're going to get a lot of responses about how we aren't supposed to drink it, how it causes cancer, and how it is really bad for us. That is not true, unless you drink a lot of it. (I'm nit even sure if it's true period)Drinking 1-2 or even 3 glasses a day would not kill you. It's got a lot of calcium and helps strengthen your bones. Soymilk and regular milk can both have health issues, both can be good and bad too. :)
Reply:Don't think so. I have been drinking a quart of milk every day since I was a teenager.

Now I'm 58 years old.
Reply:Try to read a more reliable source. What you are doing is like asking the KKK if black people are bad for America.

And yes, milk is pasteurized.
Reply:homogenized milk is bad, it is to remove certain particles(not protien), and the filters they use make this particles super tiny.

pasteurized milk is OK, the flash processing kills the Lactobacillus bacteria, which you want. it helps with digesting the milk.

goat milk is better. the smaller the animal, the smaller the protein size, the eiaser to digest

Health Benefits

Cow's milk, the basis for all other dairy products, promotes strong bones by being a very good source of vitamin D and calcium, and a good source of vitamin K--three nutrients essential to bone health. In addition, cow's milk is a very good source of iodine, a mineral essential for thyroid function; and a very good source of riboflavin and good source of vitamin B12, two B vitamins that are necessary for cardiovascular health and energy production.

Cow's milk is also a good source of vitamin A, a critical nutrient for immune function, and potassium, a nutrient important for cardiovacular health.

Milk produced by grass fed cows also contains a beneficial fatty acid called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Researchers who conducted animal studies with CLA found that this fatty acid inhibits several types of cancer in mice. In vitro (test tube) studies indicate this compound kills human skin cancer, colorectal cancer and breast-cancer cells. Other research on CLA suggests that this beneficial fat may also help lower cholesterol and prevent atherosclerosis.

Calcium--A Mineral for A Lot More than Strong Bones

Cow's milk may be best known as a very good source of calcium. Calcium is widely recognized for its role in maintaining the strength and density of bones. In a process known as bone mineralization, calcium and phosphorous join to form calcium phosphate. Calcium phosphate is a major component of the mineral complex (called hydroxyapatite) that gives structure and strength to bones. A cup of cow's milk supplies 29.7% of the daily value for calcium along with 23.2% of the DV for phosphorus.

Building bone is, however, far from all that calcium does for us. In recent studies, this important mineral has been shown to:

* Help protect colon cells from cancer-causing chemicals

* Help prevent the bone loss that can occur as a result of menopause or certain conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis

* Help prevent migraine headaches in those who suffer from them

* Reduce PMS symptoms during the luteal phase (the second half) of the menstrual cycle

* Help prevent childhood obesity

* Help overweight adults lose weight, especially around the midsection
Reply:It's pasteurized. Look at the quality of some of the negative answers .. it's the same mentality that brings you "milksucks.com".

"No other animal on the face of this Earth needs to consume breastmilk past infancy - why should human beings? "--- Well here's a fine piece of stupid thinking ... as if all animal's physiology and nutritional needs are the same. What a freakin' boob!! And they wonder why rational people taunt them.

1% or Skim is the healthiest for you ... and even those .. .ounce for ounce gives you more absorbable (the body can use it immediately) calcium than anything else.
Reply:Well that's all crap! Milk is very healthy for you. Just think, if they make a site called "milksucks.com" you know their gonna lie about it. Milk is great for you, don't believe people like that.

Dan Fogelberg 1951 - 2007........................?

Died of prostate cancer last night. My favorite all time artist. He was a musical genius. He wrote music and lyrics and played so many instruments. He has songs on some albums where he was a one man band.

Will anyone else miss Dan Fogelberg as much as I will?

Dan Fogelberg 1951 - 2007........................?
Teresa, hope you don't mind, I'm reposting a previous answer of mine:

Sad news.......May his Legacy always live on;

Love is the only thing that matters

Don’t look down

Though your heart may be weary

Don’t look down

Though your wings are on fire

Reply:Such a talented man. My group sang several of his songs(I was in a folk group for over 20 years). One of my all time favorite songs was Run for the Roses. Beautiful. He was much to young to be taken away like that. Now that the holiday season is here and they are playing Auld Lang syne, I find myself even closer to tears than normal.
Reply:I didn't know that. I am so sorry to hear. He was young.
Reply:Sorry Teresa - I do not know who Dan Fogelberg was! Was he a British performer/singer? I do not think that he was too well known in the USA - I do play a lot of current and popular music, but this name escapes me. But it is sad - no one should die that young! CJ
Reply:Yes... One of my all time favorite albums is Twin Sons of Different Mothers w/ Tim Weisberg.
Reply:I just finished doing a search on YA and there are a whole lot of posts about Dan Fogelberg's passing, and I actually read through most of them and the majority, like me, have been very touched by him over the years. I actually posted a message on YA last night around 11:00 after I read about it while I was online. I can't even imagine a world without him and any new music that I'm sure he would have written. Fortunately we will always have the music he did create while he was with us. My younger years are filled with memories of his incredible music. I don't really remember exactly how or where I "discovered" him - I like to think he discovered me. He so touched me. Even though I didn't know him personally, I feel like he knew me because the way he wrote was just the way I thought and felt. His kind of talent is almost non-existent anymore. As far as I'm concerned, he is one of the most gifted and talented artists of my generation. Such a beautiful human being. The world is less now. My heart is hurting.
Reply:I will and thanks for the question. I want people to remember him, I loved his music and was sad all day today. I have been playing it non stop. I will and do miss him very much, TRUE talent and he was so young!
Reply:Very sad, so young. Yes, he will be very missed.
Reply:I am so glad you posted this. I have been listening to his music nonstop since hearing. I feel like a part of my life is over! It sounds silly since I didn't personally know this man, but his songs inspired so many life dreams when I was younger, and now that he's gone, it's like he took the dreams with him. If it hurts this much to lose him and I didn't even know him personally, I cannot imagine what his wife must be going through. This world is a little greyer now that he is gone. I'll miss him forever and Christmas will seem sadder this year, but I'll have his beautiful Christmas music playing to keep his spirit alive.
Reply:Well, he wasn't my all time favorite, but I like to sing along with songs, and Leader of the Band, I could never get out of my throat.

Is female masturbation healthy?

Already know the health benfits of male masturbation; relieve stress and lower chances of prostate cancer. Just a little curious if the same can be said about female mastubation.

Is female masturbation healthy?
Ok, here you go:

-It can help relieve menstrual cramps.

-It can help you fall asleep.

-It stimulates the immune system to help build up resistance to common infections.

-It releases mood elevating hormones.

So, basically, it's a good thing for everyone!
Reply:Well since we don't have prostates...who knows. But certainly the same can be said for relieving stress. And if nothing else, it's a lot of fun.
Reply:yes it relieves from stress in females too n leads to good sleep.

If your PSA is the highes number within the normal parameters, does this mean anything?

My friends psa was something like 4.9 and his MD reccomended he get a re check in 1 year. He basically dribbles when he goes to the bathroom and only voids about 50 ml at a time. He is 54 yrs old and over weight.

What affects the PSA other than prostate cancer. Could it be because he drinks way too much, or smokes. I think his peter is getting ready to pooper out.

If your PSA is the highes number within the normal parameters, does this mean anything?
The PSA numbers are very important as they could indicate a condition. In the past few years mine has went to a 2.2 to a 5.4; and that is over a period of about six years. At the 5.4 my urologist suggested a biopsy. Sure enough I had cancer on one side. out of twelve bi-ops taken on one showed positive for cancer. He had me on the "watchful waiting" at that time. Due to insurance I had to change urologist and after twelve months I went back and the PSA level was 4.9. However the cancer Had changed by the scale that they use. "Gleason Score". They can tell by that score if the cancer is likely to spread. At this time it is still localized. I will go back January 30th to see what he recommends, and I know what that will be. On the Gleason Score I went from a 3+3, to 3+4..He can tell, or I say he can tell if my cancer is likely to spread with those numbers. My friend had a 3+4 and he had his prostate removed. Even though I just went up 1 point that is significant.

On another note I know this 80 year old guy that his PSA was a 10 and he was cancer free. See, you just can't go by numbers. PSA numbers is like a "red flag" to the doctors.
Reply:Benign prostate enlargement can cause an elevated PSA -- it doesn't necessary indicate cancer. My guess is that this is what your friend is experiencing, as even slight enlargement of the prostate can cause urinary difficulties. He should do what his doctor recommended and get retested in a year. It's pretty normal for the prostate to be a bit enlarged in older males, and this is often completely unrelated to cancer.
Reply:It is important that he consult his doctor who is familiar with his medical history and who is qualified, trained, and licensed to give medical advice. Ask the doctor these questions for professional answers. People on this site are not.

Chow!!
Reply:To be on the safe side I suggest that they start taking Saw Palmetto Plus. It has been shown to lower individuals PSA count and could very likely avoid more serious problems in the future.

It's all natural and contains standardized saw palmetto berry extract, pumpkin seed oil, and enriched sources of beta-sitosterols and other valuable phytosterols.

Helps to prevent and lessens benign prostatic hyperplasia (symptoms are frequent urination, decreased urinary flow), maintains proper urinary flow and enlarged prostate.

Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions or the brand I recommend.
Reply:his prostate is enlarging - probably with age

he should have a manual prostate exam (funger up a##) to make sure it is not too bad

and psa should be monitored at 6 months not a year

there are also some drugs that can help with enlarged prostate particularly if urinating is difficult

I would seek a second opinion but not be too worried - its consistent with age

Why do some religions say masterbation is a sin?

Dr. Andrew Weil says - "Masturbation is a normal sexual behavior that just about everybody engages in - 95 percent of males and 89 percent of females, according to current statistics. For many people, however, it remains a taboo subject and a practice that is still regarded as perverse or immoral. As recently as the late 19th century, medical doctors condemned masturbation as destructive to mental health, even recommending amputation of the penis as a way to cure the habit in compulsive males."

"Now it appears that masturbation is not only normal, it may be healthy and protective, especially for young men. A team of scientists in Australia found that men who ejaculate more frequently between the ages of 20 and 50 are less likely to develop prostate cancer. The protective effect seems greatest for those in their 20s."

Why do some religions say masterbation is a sin?
What a pile of "%26amp;*@ theres nothing wrong with it, you will not go to hell, you will not destroy your soul, you will not go blind. End of story! theres wouldnt be enough room in hell anyway
Reply:rebel it's like alcohol

you should do neither alone
Reply:I guess in their eyes its wasting "life"

but heres a question for them: when A woman Ovulates is she commiting sin because the egg never got fertalized?

I wish people wouldnt be so damn Ignorant all the friggin time Its normal and it is the safest sex there is.....
Reply:soo science is against religion ANYWAY
Reply:I think because it is funner than going to church.
Reply:Masturbation allows you to explore your own body in a sexual way, find out what you like and what you dont like. Human beings, are sexual beings, we reproduce.

So how can any religion forbid this, as its healthy for the body?
Reply:i thik we all would be going straight to hell then, I would be about 10,000 times over
Reply:Probably because it's self-indulgence and can be viewed by religions as gluttony, temptation and sinful.
Reply:Dr. Andrew Weil is correct in one thing - among sinners, it IS normal. But Jesus said that to even LOOK at a woman, or to lust, is as bad as adultery in the eyes of God. So, if you feel the need to live a lust-filled, self-centered, selfish lifestyle of sin, if you feel that this is "normal" behavior, you go right ahead. But just make sure you have your excuses ready because when you stand before God, He'll tell it like it is, and I don't think Dr. Weil will be there defending you, since he'll be facing his OWN judgement day!
Reply:Id rather do what God says is good for me then what man says is good for me. Man is always trying to justify sins.

I have acutally masurbated before, I went to the bishop about it a couple of weeks ago. I havnt done it since and my spirit feels SO much better. I know it was distroying me.
Reply:Really , why i believe some would consider it that way is because your wasting life in a sense , but really i dont think it is , its really just a normal thing to do , i guess its a simple way to pacify being alone ( no i dont believe relationships just consist of sex ).

However i think that some people will go to far and get lost into it and it just gets really wierd when it becames all of them and not just a part of their life.
Reply:Who cares about scientists? Who made them God?

Its a sin because in all we do we are supposed to do it all in the glory of God. When we are lusting over our own flesh, then we are living in the flesh and not in the spirit of God.

Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

God designed the male and female to become one flesh. "The two shall become one flesh"

How can one become one flesh with ONE?
Reply:Because people only view masturbation as nasty and deviant when they're not engage in it themselves.
Reply:First of all I would really like to know how masturbation is deemed healthy, I mean is it the same healthy as say vitamins or swimming etc.

These so called professional people think they can spout any old diatribe and the great un-washed have to accept it.

Masturbation is a sin wether we like to admit it or not, it is a grave offense against the Holy Spirit Who dwells within us and it is a sin against human chastity and purity.

Have you noticed how the same people insist that virginity is also old hat and one should lose it as soon as possible?
Reply:The church at one time licensed all of the brothels to the church. If you masturbated then they would be out some revenue. So they made it a sin.
Reply:masterbation is a sin because of what u r thinking while doing it -end of story
Reply:Its simple:

The two paths are:

1) The spiritual path:

2) The materialistic worldly path.

Accepting the spiritual path means you seek to behave in accordance with the spirit of God (as detailed in many scriptures from many religions); and controlling the body and mind with the soul (rather than the other way around).

Accepting the material path means you seek to obtain material pleasures and possesions: In other words, you bodily need becomes the motive for the mind, and the soul becomes the servant of the body, and its senses.

As religions promote the spiritual life; the highest goal of which is to:

1) Eat only what is required to live, not to enjoy

2) Reject all lust in favour of recognizing the level of spiritual self realization in others.

3) Regulating the body to prevent stress, thereby avoiding frustrations that lead to masturbation.

4) Rejecting the need to feel ownership over possesions and relationships.

The scientific issue is well documented. Excessive masturbation leads to:

1) Excessive testosterone levels:

2) A resultant increase in risk of Cancer (especially testicular cancer).

3) Premature balding.

Testosterone actually promotes cellular proliferation and so increases the risk of cancer. The Aussies are wrong, study is flawed.
Reply:Maturbation though it's natural to desire to satisfy oneself sexually, is not 100% healthy. When one masturbates, releasing fluids out of the body, this leads to a loss of essential nutrients and energy. In men, the loss of too many nutrients, if they masturbate too frequently, can lead to premature hair loss.

In addition, during the stimulus of the genetals, especially during orgasm, you are messing around with the hormones in your body. The reason why you want to masturbate and stimulate the pleasure centre of the brain, is due to the chemical serotonin. Serotonin is the chemical that gives one a euphoric feeling; the excitement that you feel all over your body once you orgasm.

After the orgasm, a different chemical is released, making you cool down. This hormone makes you feel down, creating the polar opposite of the affects of serotonin. If you mess around with your hormones, you mess around with your moods.

People who try to quit masturbation do find that they are depressed for the first few weaks due to the fact that they have become accustomed to that "high" which the chemical serotonin gives them. They can't stand the affects of the polar opposite hormone.

Therefore, there is a risk of dependancy and using masturbation to avoid dealing with conflict healthily.

There are negative aspects to the practice and you have to decide whether the positive aspects outweight the negative.

For ex. masturbation, which is often done alone, is often linked to becoming unsocial aroud others.

Try talking to your mom or dad after working it out, and you'll see what I mean.

Masturbation often ensued by a feeling of guilt as well, for everyone, have you ever wondered why? The affect of masturbation on one's mental health are not intensive enough to provide insight into this complicated issue.

I guy I know did it back to back for days where he couldn't feel it and he yanked it off by accident. lol

I woke up this morning with blood dripping from my penis and when I pee blood comes out. What could be wrong?

I went to ER and they did a UA and CT test but found nothing. No signs of infection, no abnormal cells, and no kidney stones. They sent me home with a Dysuria paper and said I should consult a Urologist. The blood continues to drip out thru the day and Im freaked out by it. What could be wrong with me ? Im only 26 years old and I hope it is not prostate cancer.

I woke up this morning with blood dripping from my penis and when I pee blood comes out. What could be wrong?
When I was in high school, I had this. oddly, a chiroprator fixed it.

Now I'm 56 and just recovering from prostate cancer. It's nothing like it.

Go get a spinal adjustment - I'm serious as a heart attack.

Reply:This type of bleeding usually comes from the prostate gland. It is due to a tear in one of the fragile veins of the prostate. The prostate is the organ that produces the majority of the seminal fluid in response to sexual stimulation. When the prostate contracts at the time of ejaculation, a vein may tear and blood mixes with the semen (hematospermia). Red blood indicates new and dark (brownish) discoloration indicates previous bleeding. Prostatic bleeding often is associated with gross blood during urination. This typically will occur with initiation or at the end of urination (as opposed to being throughout the entire stream). With the latter, it is often manifest as spots of blood on the underwear or pajamas. Irritation of the gland (prostatitis) can also cause it to become inflamed and predisposed to bleed. Some factors leading to inflammation include too frequent or too infrequent ejaculation, sexual arousal without ejaculation, withdraw at the time of ejaculation, excessive alcohol or spicy foods, prolonged sitting or bike riding, etc. The prostate may then become secondarily infected and require antibiotic therapy for cure. Sometimes as the prostate gradually enlarges with age, friable veins called varices develop on its surface. These are also prone to tearing. In such cases, Proscar is sometimes prescribed to?shrink both the prostate and the veins. Although hematospermia is not a typical sign of prostate cancer, its presence may indicate an increased risk of prostate cancer.

There are other causes for such bleeding. It may be that you have a lesion such as a small stone, growth or wart (papilloma) in the urethra causing this. Regardless, it is advisable to seek consultation with a urologist to evaluate this condition.

Plz help me!!!!!!!!!?

I have 3 brothers and 3 other sisters, a step mom , step brother and sister. My brothers and sisters hate me, my step mom and step brother and sister. My father just found out he has prostate cancer ,they all got together tonight to discuss his funeral expences , they invited me but i couldnt go because i have no babysitter because my husband is working. So they decided to do this without me. they did not invite my step brother and step sister .They are suppose to be decideing on how to pay for his funeral if he doesnt make it and dont want my step mom or her kids there. Doctor says that he has a 73% survival chance. they could have waited till i could go. they do not want my step mom and her kids there because the funeral home said who ever pays for the funeral has control over the funeral . should i let my step mom know whats going on behind her are just stay out of it. also they wont let me be part of it but said I HAVE to pay my share. My step mom wasnt perfect but she loved my dad!

Plz help me!!!!!!!!!?
Definitely let your step mom know. Is she not married to him any more? Otherwise I would think she would be involved in this mess. It does sound harsh though. 75% chance of survival could mean he lives. Now's not the time to discuss burials. I wouldn't let them decide all this. Not sure why they think they get to take over.

I'd tell your step mom. She has every right to be involved. Probably more so than the kids. And be there for your father. His survival could depend on if the people who love him and who has positive attitudes. If that was my dad, I'd keep those negative people away. But don't let him see you arguing with family members around him. That's for closed doors.

Death can bring the ugly out in people. Don't let it happen to you. If the rest of your family decides to go there, let them go on there own. Support your dad instead. He needs that now more than burial plans.
Reply:Let her know or you could talk to your dad about your feelings and see what he says.
Reply:Man the deal sounds harsh, your dad has almost a 75% chance of survival and they are discussing his burial, wow , way to love your dad. i would look for a less hateful family, are your inlaws nice?
Reply:This sounds very odd... You don't have to pay if you don't have any say... What are they gonna do Sue YOU??? Not a chance. Why tell the step family if your family doesn't want you to? They will find out one way or another.... You don't have to be the reason. It sounds like you are looking for allies in the wrong places.... Know who you are and stay true to that...
Reply:first of all, silly, if your step mom is married to this man it is her funeral to put on, not your siblings. second, your dad will probably be living a long time. third, i would mention to her that your siblings want to take over his funeral, because she deserves to know that.

but if your step mom is no longer married to your dad, it would be natural for the immediate family to want to control the funeral and perhaps to not include these people who are after all no longer part of the family, in that case, you are the one who is out of line and should stand with your blood relatives.
Reply:Well your brothers and sisters are been selfish. They shouldn't be that way because it looks bad especially when it comes time at the funeral when they say who the wife is and why she's not there. And then to find out that no one had the decency to tell her. Your brothers and sisters are going to HELL. ANd hope your not liek them.

Someone plz help me!!!!!!?

Honey, don't bury your Dad yet. My brother had little chance of surviving prostate cancer last year. Not only did he survive but he now has an additional grandchild to spoil. I hope all goes well for your Dad.

How many orgasms a day are healthy for men and women?

This really is a serious question. My g/f says 3 a day is OK for her but once every 2 or 3 days is enough for me - from her (Taoist) readings that state regular sex for men is only good if they do not orgasm (she is Chinese) A good search on Google/Yahoo/Ask etc didn't turn up much except quite a few references to "twice a week may prevent prostate cancer"

TIA

Mark

How many orgasms a day are healthy for men and women?
The Taoist idea she is referring to avoid orgasm is to increase to pleasure to the woman (because you last longer) and yourself (because you have more pent up semen). It was not originally meant to forbid having orgasms more often.

It sounds like your gf is trying to sell you on something you are not comfortable with. I say she lets you come as much as you want, or you get a new gf.
Reply:honeslty i don't think there is anything to be concerned about. i have never heard of anything about this. keep going til you can't go any more.
Reply:I don't think there is any certain number that is healthy or non-healthy for men. Women however, I have heard it is not very healthy for them to have to many because of dehydration or something like that.
Reply:Well, if 3 a day is good for your girlfriend, then go for it. That is if you can keep up with her.
Reply:TWICE A WEEK
Reply:I think girls can have sex all they want and I don't think it's a problem.

For guys, I think 3 or 4 times a week is ok.

but at least once every 2 weeks, I think is needed to stay healthy.

What you said about sex without orgasm, I think if someone does that too much, they might have a problem, you have to let it out, you can't hold it in all the time.
Reply:No more than 5 1/2 per week.
Reply:good question...I believe 2-4 times a week for guys. help keep the semen fresh.

Im stuck between a rock and a hard place, can anyone give me advice?

My grandfather has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and is being treated with chemo, but the doctor says that it has already spread too far, and he could pass away in 2 weeks, or two years.. but no more than two years

im very upset because i love him very much, and we wont even be able to see me graduate school... also a bestfriend screwed me over, i feel that i am losing feelings for my boyfriend, and my parents are taking their grief out on me....

it seems like there is no where to turn, i just dont know what to do anymore.... any advice?

also, music helps me get through .. are there any songs that could relate?

Im stuck between a rock and a hard place, can anyone give me advice?
It is a hard place to be in but do the best you can when you visist and visit often.....everyone is upset right now so try as much as you can to understand this...if you need to talk to someone like your friend or family that may help you get threw some of this you will always be sad by your lost but know he won't be in any pain which he is I'm sure so take care
Reply:At my current age, I need to prepare myself for my older generation's passing away. One of my uncle's passed away last month.

The best thing you can do is make a point to give him the best of you for the remaining time. He will enjoy that more than anything.
Reply:It's difficult to watch someone you love slowly die. I'm sure your parents are upset about it too.

You are going through some changes during this process. Is your boyfriend supportive of your feelings? If not, maybe he has never been through anything like this and doesn't know how to comfort you. Many people are afraid to be around death issues.

See a school counselor to work through this. Sorry I don't know any songs for you, but she might.

How do you know when your dog's balls drop?

please, this is a serious question.

this is not meant to be perverted or funny in anyway, so please don't give back perverted or funny answers.

my 4 month old dog is planning to get neutered next month, but based on what my vet said, only one of his balls have dropped, and if both do not drop by the day of the surgery he cannot get neutered and will need to get a different type of surgery so he won't get prostate cancer.

i want to know how i can check if both have dropped.

i tried copying what my vet did but i absolutely cannot feel a difference.

i don't want to have to take my dog back to the vet and pay a 50 dollar examination fee just to check if his balls have dropped, so i would like to know if there is a way i can find out myself.

again, no perverted and/or 'funny' answers please. i am being serious in every way.

How do you know when your dog's balls drop?
It shouldn't make a difference.. You take your dog in for neutering, and if they are both there, the vet neuters like usual. If you show up and only 1 testicle is there, he just needs to locate the other and remove it too. Put your dog up on the table, lift his front end slightly so his two front feet are just up off the table., Take two fingers and slide them down his belly towards where his testicles would be.. Feel his sack and see if you can fee 2 testicles.. They are tiny little things at 16 weeks of age, so sometimes it can be harder to tell..
Reply:Some dogs won't drop both testicles so he may not. I would imagine if he has a retained testicle that the vet would then operate to remove it when he does the neutering.
Reply:Basically, you feel them, there's really no other way. If there's only one, it's pretty obvious. However, depending upon the size of the dog, they could be pretty small. You would think that your dog's testicles would have dropped by now, but sometimes a dog will take longer.

If the dog is crytorochid, the technical term for having retained testicles, the regular castration procedure can't be used. Instead, the vet has to make an incision in the abdomen, locate the retained testicle and remove it. Otherwise, it's pretty simple to make an incision in the scrotum and remove the testicles through that.

If the other one hasn't descended by the time you are scheduled for the surgery, the vet at the shelter should be able to advise you of that. In that case, you could wait until the dog is 6 months old or so. If it hasn't dropped by then, the chances get pretty slim, and the more complex surgery will be more likely.
Reply:It takes some dogs longer to drop than others. If you can just wait a couple months. He is still very young. It may take a little longer but it is just the way dogs are. Do not worry if they do not even at 6 mos. The surgery is not that much more complicated.
Reply:They usually say they should both drop by 6 months. If they retain one or both testicles, they are said to be cryptorchid. They can still neutered, but they usually have to make an incision and sort of dig out the retained one. It makes the surgery a little more complicated, but not a big deal. It's very common. And it is wise to get a retained testicle removed because they can become cancerous.

Are you able to feel the one testicle that the vet felt? If the other side feels the same, like a small marble, then they have both dropped. If you feel 2 small "lumps", it may have happened since your last vet visit. If possible, I'd wait until he's 6 months, and by then there should be no confusion.

If it's any consolation, my dog retained one until exactly 1 week before his 6 month neuter was scheduled, so I faced the same dilemma.

Good luck.
Reply:If you can feel both, then they are both down.

A surgery like this is more invasive and therefore, I feel should be done by a vet who has experience in this. Ask the shelter if their vet is familiar with castration of a cryptorchid or monorchid dog.
Reply:You can see them.

Pain in lower right abdomen and right testical (I am almost 15)?

Hi, for the past day, I've had a repetitive pain in my lower-right abdomen and into my right testicle. My mom took me to the pediatrician and he checked it out, did the cough test, and said it wasn't a hernia. But the pain is still here. He said I may need to see a Urologist soon if it becomes ongoing. I researched into what this could be, and came up with a variety of possibilities, such as a hernia, prostate cancer (christ i hope not), a pulled muscle, and thats basically it. I have not been hit in the groin recently, it just started for no reason. I haven't played sports since a hockey game last Monday night, but the pain didn't start until yesterday. The pain increases when I stand up, sit down, lay down, or any change of position. Even standing/sitting still causes it pain. The pain comes and goes, but comes more. Any ideas what it could be? Possibly hormones? Also, my scrotum has very thin skin, I can even feel my internal testicle material through it. Just giving all info possible

Pain in lower right abdomen and right testical (I am almost 15)?
Your problem could be related to the inguinal nerve. I say this because my son was having left sided abdominal pain that was positional, (certain positions and movements made it hurt) and I was asking my chiropractor about possible causes. The first thing he said was to ask my son if he was having any testicular pain because if he was it was probably the inguinal nerve which runs by each hip bone down to the testicles. My son isn't feeling any testicular pain but you are describing exactly what he was talking about. The pain is in the similar area that your pediatrician checked for the inguinal hernia but it may be coming from the nerve so a hernia would not be picked up by your pediatrician. Show this to your mom and she can decide who to ask about looking into this. I hope you feel better soon.
Reply:Ignore it

Reply:u may be having urinary infection or small stone in ur urinary tract. get ur urine checked.if there is RBC in it .it is stone if pus cells it is urinary infection
Reply:You balls dropped several years ago and you are almost 15, so you were 7 when the testis dropped! They should drop one year after birth!

%26gt;I am 36 years old and it would appear my testicles have never dropped. This was obviously never picked up when I was young and by the time I realised I was different I was to embarrassed to do anything about it.%26lt;

%26gt;Doc reply: Yes I have seen this problem and it is now becoming unfortunately more common for unknown reasons.

Anyway we can say they are in the sac, but it seems they are free in the sac and sometime they can twist or turn, what they call 'tweak'. This can cause pain but is not a problem unless they twist all the way and cut off the blood supply, however you will know that if it happens, worse than being kick in the sac. So I reckon it is just a tweak, probably due to playing Hockey and will settle down. However try not to feel them as this will only add to the problem. No I am not a male, just have a insight into Human Biology. Best of Luck

Worried about another HPV test.?

I have written before and you all have been sooooo helpful. I thank you all on this very difficult situation.

I have decided to go with another OB GYN doctor who has taken care of me before in my younger years. The most recent OB GYN doctor seemed to be cold and not informative about the issue of HPV. He told me my test results and said I had HPV High and to just come back in 1 year for a retest since my PAP was normal.

The doctor I have now, who is female, had me take another HPV test and PAP. I am scared now. Like I have to relive another test. It's as if I have to keep waiting and praying that the HPV virus will go away or if not I will have abnormal cells that may inevitably turn to cancer. It has made me moody because of this uncertainty in my life. I feel like I should prepare for the worst.

P.S. My father died of prostate cancer which makes it difficult to look at this situation objectively.

Worried about another HPV test.?
first off, you need to talk your new second doctor and have her explain hpv to you. it is absolutely not inevitable that you will get cancer from this, IDK where this idea comes from. nearly everyone gets hpv at some point, but how many people do you know that have cervical cancer, and I mean REAL cancer not just dysplasia. there is a difference between the two and it is not inevitable. by the way, if that was your first hpv positive and you have never had an abnormal pap , the first doctor did the right thing-you come back in one year for another pap and hpv
Reply:What you really need to do if you have questions and concerns is talk to your doctor. Not everyone here knows what they are talking about and you will end up getting conflicting answers some of which will be completely wrong. Below is a site you should check out that may answer some of your questions like will the virus go away? will it turn into cancer? Take your time and actually read it. (especially the living with HPV article)

Hope this helps you.

Help!!! Docs only please!!! How long left for him?

My father-in-law has prostate cancer and his psa is now 53. The doctors said the chemo is not working anymore and have just given him pain killers. He has 12 tumors in his spine and bone cancer. He gets bone infusions to keep the spine from cracking. He won't stop working, cannot drive, and now has sleep apnea too. He has fallen 3 times in the last month and couldn't get up. My question is how long (estimate) does he have left now? Will he just go in his sleep or is this going to be a long road of suffering?

Help!!! Docs only please!!! How long left for him?
As a doctor, we advise that patients and relatives that they will have 6 months to live. It is just a poor estimate and depends on the individual, his genetics and his will to live. Medical professionals are not GODS and cant really determine when someone will die, all we can do is estimate. Some defy the odds and some dont.

I think you should focus on his quality of life and make him as comfortable as possible while maintaining his dignity as an elder and do not treat him as a child/invalid.

Remember he is not dead yet, do not miss him or disrespect him. Even though he may be dying, he is still a human being who needs love, attention, food etc

Sorry to hear about his condition.
Reply:I'm not a doctor, but there are signs. He might start picking at his clothing as if there is imaginary lint there, get a feeling of water on his skin, talks to you about someone from the past as if it was now. I know this because my mom passed of breast cancer, and the hospice people gave us a flyer with the signs. There is really no one that can tell you how long. Only God knows. From experience they all say 3-6 months. I think they get that time frame from a manual! Just spend, and love as much as you can.

God Bless, and Good Luck.
Reply:First, I am not a physician, but I have had several patients who have had cancer. The answer to your question is it is really anybody's guess. The important thing to remeber is that he needs to be doing things that he really enjoys and for you to support his decisions. It is his life. Let him enjoy every moment that he has and when the time comes he grow weak gradually at first and then it seem that all of a sudden he lost the capacity to do anything. When this happens, you need to tell him that you will be alright when he passes. He did a great job raising you and making able to take care of yourself.
Reply:You should call his doctor but he will most like tell you he doesn't know only give you a estimate. We are all individuals, there are people who have had two or more different cancers and lived a long time.

Father is 94...?

Father is 94, health-lung cancer, prostate cancer. Mental abilities high, still drives very well, lives in own house. Necessities, ldry, bath ,bdrm, kitchen all on one floor. Will medicare pay for home care? Well to do, has money, CD's, farm income.

Father is 94...?
I had a friend who went through something like this, just before my own grandmother got ill. Had it not been for her, we wouldn't have checked into it.

Check with your father's doctor if possible for recommendations, but if not look up Home Health Care and Hospice in your yellow pages. Many of the "Hospice" programs also have another program that is just Home Health Care which gives transitional services for people who need some home health care help (and sometimes other home help) but are not yet ready for Hospice care. Surprisingly, most of the time at least some services will be covered by Medicare. If you have one of the services come out and do an evaluation, they can determine whether your father is eligible for Medicare coverage.

Edited to add that both my friend's mother's care and my grandmother's care were covered by Medicare.
Reply:i dont think so, but that's not for sure... check out medicare.gov
Reply:check with medicare also church groups the church groups can find a lot of info for you and very good seeing your father is doing great.
Reply:Of course, he has deseses and is sick.
Reply:No, I don't think medicare will pay for your father's home care, he would have to finance this for himself. Please contact medicare directly and get the real facts because I'm only speculating.

Would you recomend this for your husband?

Masterbation and lots of it? You know, when sex is not available due to 2 kids including a newborn? I have been doing it forever but lately have felt some pain in my private area and am worried that I might have early signs of cancer? I'm 26 and heard that plenty of excercise down there will help fight prostate cancer. Would you be comfortable with all these situations to tell him this is a good idea? How would you help him? Magazines, movies, internet?

Would you recomend this for your husband?
The first thing I would do is go to a doctor and see why there is so much pain especially at that age. it could be nothing more than an enlarged prostate or an infection somewhere.

As far a masturbation is concerned, I never heard of someone playing with themselves for medical reasons BUT FOR SEXUAL REASONS GO FOR IT.
Reply:issues....lots of issues here
Reply:I'd recommend seeing a doctor.
Reply:Masterbation is normal... Go to a Dr for your lower extremity pain... Good luck w/that
Reply:masturbation is healthy but when pain is involved, that can't be good. GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR.
Reply:You're on a slippery slope so to speak. Do not encourage that. You want him to depend on himself and thoughts of other women to satisfy himself, when sex is your opportunity to be close and develop a bond with your husband. Thoughts lead to actions, and he'll get tired of just thinking about other women, and to top it off, he won't have a sexual closeness with you. And for men, when there's no sexual closesness, there's no emotional closeness. I have 6 children. Believe me there were plenty of times that I didn't want anything to do with sex. In fact, when I was your age, we just didn't and it took a toll on our marriage. We ended up making a deal that when he really needed to, he could make a pass, and I wouldn't say no. Acting begrudging defeats the purpose as it's a total turnoff. So, he made fewer passes, and I did my best to keep him happy. Before long, the kids were a little older, the new baby stage was over, I wasn't as tired, our marriage was strong, and I started to really enjoy sex again. It will happen, believe it or not. But when you're ready, you want your husband to be there. As for the pain... it's probably just that you're not well lubricated. Use some K-Y. You may have a small tear from trying and not being well lubricated and it will take some time to heal. If you still have a problem see your doctor. Meanwhile, you can help him in other ways yourself so that your husband isn't made to feel like a slimey sex addict. He's normal to want it, you're normal to not right now. Deal with it lovingly.
Reply:That's a toughie...my hubby masterbates all the time. Sex or no sex! LOL It helps relax him before bed if we're not getting it on. And when we didn't for a few months because of the baby then he had no problem taking care of it....even in front of me. If you can't have sex with him due to pain then you can't...but you can always do other stuff with him. You can help him masterbate, give him a nice rub down. If you're too tired which could be understandable with 2 little ones then just do it every few days or something so that you're not getting any distance between the two of you.

I also wouldn't really go to him and say...I have pain, don't want to have sex, so please masterbate instead. That might come across wrong. Maybe just explain to him that you're having these pains, tell him what your concerns are and hope he understands. You can mention that you're okay with him masterbating if that's what he like to do. (Which I'm sure he does, because everyone does) But this way you're not telling him to go do it, you're suggesting it and leaving the ball in his court.

In the meantime...I would definitely go to the doctors to see whats wrong. =)
Reply:Yup, definitely you need to see DR. Winkie....
Reply:No. Part of being a man and a husband is knowing when you have to suck it up. If you are worried you have a physical problem, get to a urologist and get checked out.

Anyone involved in Home hospice?

3 days ago my father is walking 3 miles everyday and Thursday he went to the hospital complaining of abdominal pains. He has found out in the hospital that his porstate cancer has spread to his liver and that he might only have a few months to live. His doctors had been treating his prostate cancer and it was under control for the last 10 years and everything was going well until this bomb hit. I am now his Power of attorney and I am the only family member he has left. I am married with a 10 month old and my wife is expecting twins in July. He was released from the hospital this morning and he is staying with me, my wife and our baby. He has like 10 different drugs that I have to manage for him to make sure he takes at the right time and he has his pain medicine. I didnt even know what a hospice was until yesterday when the doctor said he should have that care. Now I have to decide about in home hospice or let him go to his retirement home and have a nurse see him once a day. LifeSucks

Anyone involved in Home hospice?
I work for a hospice as a nurse and my dad died from cancer. Life sure does suck sometimes. If I was in your shoes, the first thing I would do is come to some kind of acceptance that your life is gonna be out of balance for a while. It's my experience that dying is always a mess. That's the bad news. The good news is that with skilled hospice care, his symptoms can be managed and he can be kept physically comfortable. That being said, there is something I don't understand about your scenario. You state that you have to decide where your father goes. Is your father, who was walking three miles a day three days ago, already so incapacitated that he cannot be involved in the decision making? Whether or not he is able to be involved in the decision making, your wife has to be involved, too. After all, it's her house, too.

Don't put off practical matters that may seem distasteful. For instance, discuss the appropriateness of a Do Not Resuscitate order with his physician and if you decide you want one, keep the document with your father. Make funeral arrangements. I know it sounds macabre, but knowing that things are taken care of will contribute greatly to both your and your father's peace of mind.

You can have hospice involved wherever your father decides to stay. Use everything they have to offer. It's not just nursing care. Even if you have no religious faith at all, a hospice chaplain can help you with some of the existential and spiritual problems that invariably come up and they never preach. Social workers have access to many resources that can help you and are skilled at brainstorming solutions to problems.

You have a lot on your plate. Don't feel guilty if you can't do everything. You're going to have a lot of people and things competing for your time and energy. You're not alone though, so take any help that is offered.

Enjoy your father in these last few days, weeks, or months you have with him. Laugh, cry and shoot the bull with him. Learn the things that he has yet to teach you.

Good luck, my friend.
Reply:You're right...it DOES suck.

Home hospice is pretty much what I'm doing, here; my husband has prostate cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's. I have dedicated myself to his care, however long that might be.

But, it DOES suck, on so may levels, chief among which is watching the decline, day by day. It's bitterly sad, as you know.

Here are your ugly choices: place him in a hospice, and feel ferocious guilt about it forever.

Care for him at home and feel guilt that you ever do anything except see to his bathing, medication, companionship, feeding, changing, and so on.

The truth is, we can't win; whatever we do, it's got (as I like to say) some rat in it.

You're in a bad situation, having a young family which needs your love and attention as much as your dad does. Can you manage a home health-care worker a few times a week? It might be the difference between staying sane and total chaos.

I can't imagine how awful this is for you, but you have my sympathy for your father's illness, and my hopes that you will find a solution that, no matter how imperfect, you can live with.

My best wishes to you and your family.

-Victory.
Reply:Hi. I am SO sorry to hear the bad news!!! I've lost just about everybody in my original family, and for me, it felt like someone just whacked me real hard in the stomach. I took Hospice Volunteers training about 5 years ago, but I haven't pressed to get into it. But they are fantastic! They do everything for you. They give respite care in case you want to go out for awhile, you won't feel guilty. They give financial advice, emotional support, discuss with the family issues that the family doesn't understand, and they are there to provide "Grief Counseling" after their "friend" dies. I recommend them 100%. They really will make life easier. Again, I am really sorry. God is with you all.
Reply:i do feel very sorry for you , you could keep home with you,but its hard work, for you with the baby and twins on the way.but the hospice is so wonderful, and very caring and your dad would have the best of care, thats what i would do ,but if you think you could care at home then keep him with you, all the very best to you .
Reply:I'm really sorry to hear about your father.

Based upon his activity level - he doesn't sound neccessarily appropriate for hospice at this time. Unless something happened in the hospital to severely reduce his energy and excercise tolerance?

It also sounds like your father is capable of managing his own meds, if he was able to walk 3 miles a day. However, to make things easier I suggest the following --%26gt; get a poster board (or large sheet of paper) and divide it into four columns for AM / LUNCH / PM / and BEDTIME - and make as many rows as you need for the medicines. With each medicine, list its brand and generic name, and what its used for. I usually put an x in the columns when each of the meds are supposed to be taken (you know, AM/Bedtime or whatever). Make a copy of the poster to carry with you to all appointments, and update it accordingly.

Pill boxes can also be very helpful.

Hospice is a wonderful organization. For people who want to be or are able to be at home, they can help by providing a visiting nurse (not 24hrs a day), a counselor (to help you deal with death/dying), and equipment to use in the home to help care for your father.

There are some inpatient hospices as well, which tend to be for people who are at the very end of life with intolerable pain, etc.

Each hospice has different services and requirements - I recommend calling around and seeing what works best for you, and what services your father might be eligible for as a part of medicaid.

Lastly, you need to have honest discussions with your father about what kind of care he wants. He should consider becoming a DNR - do not recussitate - otherwise he may spend the last days of his life in an ICU, costing thousands of dollars without making him better.

I know it seems overwhelming, especially with new babies coming, but it is for a limited time, and I assume your father deserves all your love and support during this time. Good luck to you - remember, hospice is there for the family as well as the patient.
Reply:Yes, my father just passed away 12/22. He had a very rare disease called amyloidosis. He did not want to go to a rest home and I brought him home on hospice. Meds- I bought colored labels. I didn't have the time to look at each bottle morning, noon, and nite. I had all 22 in a box with colored labels on top. Yellow for morning, red for afternoon, and blue for nite. If you use a pill box, it tends to get to mixed up with a lot of meds. They may also change as well (adds or deletes). The nurses came by, checked vitals and offered wonderful support. When pain gets really bad, they will get him liquid morphine and ativan. It won't be pretty, but for me it was worth it. I was able to give him a huge gift by caring for him. I also got a notebook and a 3 hole punch to put all of his medical papers in so they were easily accessible. You need to know where all of his important papers are (deeds, loans, etc. ) Does he have a will and if so are you executor? If not, get one now. The banks will not talk to anyone until after the death certificates are in your hand. I'm still waiting on his. I can help you, if you would like. inkspotter2000@yahoo.com Sorry so jumbled. There is so much to tell you, but not here.

Christians: Will you pray for my Dad?

My dad had prostate cancer 6 years ago, which metastacized to his bones 1 1/2 years ago. His bone scans were getting better, but then 2 weeks ago, life fell apart. It's very complicated, but first he had a stent placed in his heart, then 2 days later we learned his cancer metastacized to his skull. After a week of radiation, he is weak and confused. My brother and I cannot manage his medications (he's also diabetic). Friday afternoon, my dad fell, then at about 9pm, he asked my brother to take him to the hospital, where he suffered a mild heart attack in the night.

They need to do surgery to fix the heart, but if they do, he will bleed into his brain, causing a "vegetative" state. The doctor recommends we make him comfortable and let the end come, which I can see the wisdom in that.

I've placed my dad in God's hands. I know that a lifetime is but a moment in eternity, and that I will see him soon, if he goes. But I am still praying for a miracle. Thank you so much.

If he lives or dies, remember that God has a plan and will take care of you. God bless you, your family, and especially your dad.

I can relate to you because a few months ago my dad also had cancer - a tumor in his knee. Praise the Lord, we think that it's all gone now. :-)
Reply:I am not Christian and therefore will not presume to offer a prayer you have not asked me for, but I just wanted to say that you have my sympathy and I hope that your father's passing is as peaceful as possible.

Take care of yourself -- be sure to eat enough, sleep enough, etc. I just went through losing my own mother to cancer, and trust me, you'll need to make sure that you're looking after your own health.

EDITED TO ADD: American Rebel -- well said. I would have been happy to offer a prayer, but again, since I was specifically excluded from doing so... *shrug*.
Reply:I will pray for him. And you say you are praying for a miracle. That miracle maybe that he go to Glory to be with Jesus. If so then God will be right there with you to give you piece through the Holy Spirit. God Bless you and your family.

Reply:i lost my father april 8th of this year.please take it from me make him comfortable at home and keep close to your reve 21:3,4 also also hold this thought In the Christian Greek Scriptures, the word “resurrection” occurs more than 40 times. It is translated from a Greek word that literally means “a standing up again.” The corresponding Hebrew expression means “revival of the dead.” After a person dies, what is resurrected? It cannot be the body, which decays and returns to the dust of the ground. What is resurrected is not the same body but the same person who died. Thus, resurrection involves the restoration of the life pattern of the individual—his personality traits, his personal history, and all the details of his identity.

Jehovah God, who is perfect in memory, has no problem remembering the life patterns of those who have died. (Isaiah 40:26) Since he is the Originator of life, Jehovah can readily bring back to life the same person in a newly formed body. (Psalm 36:9) Moreover, the Bible states that Jehovah God has “a yearning”—an earnest longing and desire—to resurrect the dead. (Job 14:14, 15) How glad we can be that not only is Jehovah able to bring a person back to life but he also wants to do it!

Jesus Christ too plays a key role in resurrecting the dead. A little over a year after beginning his ministry, Jesus said: “Just as the Father raises the dead up and makes them alive, so the Son also makes those alive whom he wants to.” (John 5:21) Does not the experience of Lazarus show that Jesus Christ has the power as well as the desire to resurrect the dead?

What about the idea that something inside us goes on living after death? The teaching of the resurrection and the idea of the immortality of the human soul or spirit are, in fact, incompatible. If something inside us survived death, what need would there be for a resurrection? Lazarus’ sister Martha did not believe that when her brother died, he continued to exist in a spirit realm. She had faith in the resurrection. When Jesus assured her: “Your brother will rise,” Martha said: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.” (John 11:23, 24) And when brought back to life, Lazarus did not relate any experiences of an afterlife. He had been dead. “As for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all,” states the Bible. “There is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol [the common grave of mankind], the place to which you are going.”—Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10.

According to the Bible, then, the only remedy for death is the resurrection. But of the countless dead, who will be resurrected, and to where?

Who Will Be Resurrected?

“The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear [Jesus’] voice and come out,” said Jesus. (John 5:28, 29) According to this promise, those in the memorial tombs—those who are in Jehovah’s memory—will be resurrected. The question, then, is, Of all those who have died, who actually are in God’s memory awaiting a resurrection?

The Bible book of Hebrews chapter 11 lists by name men and women who faithfully served God. They as well as those loyal servants of God who have died in recent years will be among the resurrected ones. What about people who failed to meet God’s standards of righteousness, perhaps because of a lack of knowledge? Are they also in God’s memory? Yes, many are, for the Bible promises: “There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.”—Acts 24:15.

However, not everyone who has ever lived will receive a resurrection. “If we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth,” states the Bible, “there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left, but there is a certain fearful expectation of judgment.” (Hebrews 10:26, 27) Some committed sins for which there is no forgiveness. They are not in Hades (mankind’s common grave) but in Gehenna, a symbolic place of eternal destruction. (Matthew 23:33) We must be careful, though, not to speculate on whether a certain person will be resurrected or not. This judgment belongs to God. He knows who is in Hades and who is in Gehenna. For our part, we do well to live our lives according to God’s will.
Reply:According to Christians, god already knows what is going to happen. So, how would praying help change god's mind.
Reply:I will pray that God's will be done, that he will bless you and your family with peace, and comfort you no matter what happens.

I am glad that you have faith, and understand that life after this one is so much better. I do not know how people who do not believe can cope.

Whatever the outcome, I hope that your father does not have to suffer and be in pain.

God Bless,

Tina

Reply:Of course I will pray for your dad. Also for you and your brother. God bless you. (I lost my dad to cancer two weeks ago. It's a terrible loss, but God's grace saw him and our family through it. I know He will do the same for your dad and you.)

Why do we have sex if it can contribute to so many problems?

Here's a list of things to think about.......

1.unwanted pregnancy

2. possible cancer, stroke, blood clots (birth control)

3. infidelity (cheating)

4 STDs or maybe even HIV or AIDS

5. honeymoon itis (urinary infection)

6. yeast infections

7 higher risk for prostate cancer (vasectomy)

8. fragmentation of your mind (multipal relations)

9. Broken hearts

10 addiction

Ok I wont go on lol yes there are more negatives.... For something that is supposed to be a part of our lives? Seems that the negatives outweigh the gratification that is so temporay..Hmm!

People have no clue that whoever you sleep with you have slept with every person they have had and so on and so forth! Maybe that's why we were only intended to have 1 partner for life! Ya think? Maybe there would be more peace in the world if we played by the rules? LOL

Eventually condoms come back to bite ya they are NOT a good source of birth control but they are better than nothing at all!

Why do we have sex if it can contribute to so many problems?
Whether or not in contributes to all these negatives you are listing, you forgot that sex not only feels good at the time, but the endorphines released is good for your health, never mind the fact that there's a bond with your partner that comes when you have sex with them. So, not all is bad about sex and I'm still going to go home and enjoy sex with my fiance. Good in my books far outweighs the bad you listed.
Reply:it feels good.

FMLA law. What do I write for time off work?

Family and Medical Act (FMLA), I have a prostate cancer surgery and treatment that I will be undergoing pretty soon. My younger brother told me to put down "Family Medical Leave of Absence, due to a prostate cancer and treatment". I work as a Private Security Guard for DWP. What shall I put on my TIME OFF WORK paper?

FMLA law. What do I write for time off work?
You can request leave under FMLA for your own serious health condition (surgery and recovery). If your employer is subject to the FMLA and you have worked the requisite number of hours in the year before your leave request, you will be eligible for up to 12 weeks of FMLA leave. I say "up to" because, contrary to popular belief, an employee is not automatically entitled to 12 weeks. Instead an employee is authorized the amount of time, up to 12 weeks, necessary for the surgery and to recover sufficiently to safely return to work. In other words, 12 weeks per year is the ceiling, not the floor. Your employer may request lawfully documentation susbstantiating your need for the leave.

This leave may be unpaid but you may use accrued sick and annual leave (with permission of your employer) to offset any financial hardship by being on unpaid leave. After you return from FMLA leave, your employer, under most circumstances must give you your job back or one that is substantially equivalent. .

FMLA will not protect you from lay-off, discipline, etc that would have occured if you were not on leave. In other words, FMLA puts you in the same position you would have been if you had not taken leave.

Good luck.
