Hi, im 13 years old and i found out that my father might have prostate cancer.. I dont know for sure yet.. So i was wondering if anyone could tell me.. Is there any treatments for it? If he does have it will he for surely die? Please tell me everything i should know..
Dad Might Have Prostate Cancer ( Read. )?
Prostate cancer in general is very treatable if identified in an early stage. There are many ways to treat it and the radioactive beads are the treatment that I would favor if I came down with it. Treatment is about 80% effective as an average and it is getting better every day. 50% of the men at age 70 have prostate cancer and they all die from something else because prostate cancer generally is very slow growing like basal cell carcenomia of the skin is very slow growing
I am assuming your father is about 25 to 30 years older than you and if that is the case he is young to have prostate cancer so it means he may have identified it in an early state if indeed he does have it. You also may be confused between prostate cancer and other male urninary issues that are all non-cancerous and treatable. There is a test they run to look at the prostate's chemistry and it is call the PSA. It is used as a marker and if it is going up the non-cancer new tissue growth or cancer is winning and if it is going down then the cancer or new growth is losing. The lower the PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) the better it is. Mine is 0.34 and the normal range is 0 to 4.0.
What you should know is that he most likely will not die from it and that all he needs from you is a lot of love and caring and support. He doesn't need a lot of other stress in his life until he has concluded the treatment course the the Drs have recommended.
You sound like a great kid who can handle all this easily - stay positive and you and your dad will win.
Reply:If he found out early, and he's getting treatment, he'll be fine! Don't worry! Prostate cancer isn't even one of the more serious ones. And you don't yet, he could be fine. Don't stress over it. Whatever happens, he'll be O.K.
Reply:I had prostate cancer 3 years ago. I had Proton Radiation treatment for it, and I believe that Proton Radiation is the very best treatment available for Prostate Cancer today. It is different from conventional radiation because it is concentrated and releases most of the treatment energy at the specific area being treated. It can treat very small areas with out affecting the surrounding tissue and organs... Therefore, there are little to no side effects when taking Proton Radiation and the cure rate is the same or better than other treatments. Its cure rate is about 90%. The leading hospital that uses this method is Loma Linda Univeristy Medical Center in Loma Linda, California... however due to their great success MD Anderson in Houston, the hospital at Harvard, one in Florida and one in Indiana have recently began offering it ..maybe 2-3 more.
Go to a website called Proton Bob.. It has lots on information on Proton Radiation... If you go to the website.. be sure to read the testimonials from other patients and see what they have to say. Above all if your Dad has Prostate Cancer...have him read the Proton Bob website... Also there is a new book out that was written by Robert J. Marckini called YOU CAN BEAT PROSTATE CANCER.... AND YOU DONT NEED SURGERY TO DO IT. The book tells about all of the cancer treatments that are available... It is a great book...you might purchase the book. If your Dad does have Prostate Cancer and would like to talk to some one who has had it, please feel free to email me and I will be glad to talk with him via email or telepone. Bottom line about Proton Radiation is that it has at least the same cure rate if not better (which if high) than the other treatments and there are no side effects...so why take the other treatments and be sick or have side effects of other kinds... Its a no brainer when one looks at all the facts!!! Many doctors dont know about it or will not recommend it because they think it is still expermental.. well its not..Loma Linda has been doing it 17 years and now other hospitals are starting to do it because of their great success. Doctors are also reluctant to recommend it because they dont make money by sending their patients elsewhere for treatments.. but you know what.. sure were lots of Doctors and people in the Medical field who had Prostate cancer and were out at Loma Linda being treated when I was out there... .. I have no sign of prostate cancer now.. and do not think i will die from prostate cancer... old age hopefully!!!!
