Does a vasectomy increase the risk for prostate cancer?

It was reported once on TV News that a vasectomy increases the risk of prostate cancer. Some people immediately rejected the idea while others did not.

Does a vasectomy increase the risk for prostate cancer?
No, it doesn't. There was a study years ago that seemed to indicate that it might but it turned out that the data was misinterpreted by the media. I'm sorry I don't have more details--this came second hand from my own doctor.
Reply:I've worked for a urologist for two years...they do vasectomies as well as deal with prostate cancer and I have never heard of this before so I would say definately not.
Reply:Well, I had a vascetomy and I didn't notice a vas deference in my chances.
Reply:My doctor says no. The only reason this supposedly came up was because getting a vasectomy will make you more likely (age, etc.) to be screened, hence more people found with prostate cancer have had a vasectomy. Made sense to me.
